Strength Over Cancer For Gyms,Suppliers and Allied Health

STRENGTH OVER CANCER – A PROGRAM OUR CLUB IS NOW INVOLVED IN – I believe it’s important for those undergoing Cancer treatment to exercise. Every treatment affects each individual differently therefore there is no standard program for all. Each person will receive a personal program with a Strength over cancer trainer. Before working with each person the trainer or allied health professional will need to meet criteria set by the SOC committee. I personally believe exercise plays an important role in our mental wellbeing, understanding and undergoing treatment is not something to be compared. Social interaction is also imperative during these times and this is where exercise aligns itself with treatment. There’s nothing worse for a person to feel isolated and disarmed during treatment. We don’t see our SOC community as victims we see and treat them as we do all our clients who have hit a hurdle in life. Jump the hurdle progress slowly with positivity and surround yourself with people who understand, yet want more than a bed or recliner for you. We spend our whole career encouraging fitness and health so we don’t get sick yet when cancer occurs we encourage sedentary actions. Strength Over Cancer creating resilience through movement.
If you’re a gym, have access to gyms as a supplier, trainer or allied health professional and you would like to be involved please message us.

#BrainTumoursAreNotRumoursTheyNeedFundingToo

Body & Soul 24/& Gym is proud to be working along side:

The Red Gala Ball to be held in honour of the late Sue Cornish in  July.

I never knew Sue however I have heard lots of lovely stories about her strengths, her favourite colour red and her courageous battle with a disease that takes the lives of many each day.

My role and my clubs role is not one of recognition but one of awareness, brain tumours take the lives of more children than any other disease. Brain tumours receive less funding than any other disease and in some cases none. Brain tumours can cancel out a persons life in a season.

In 2016 I was tagged in a post on social media by Elise Steenhuis the post asked for assistance in displaying posters for an event called The Red Gala Ball. I read a little further and noticed it was to raise funds for brain cancer awareness and research. I messaged the ladies and jumped on board. In 2013 I myself was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour and like us all when we are told we have a health issue I became the stalker of research. Sadly there’s really not been a lot accomplished in the last decade, this is because of a lack of funds. Yes, we have Dr.Charlie Teo and we have Carrie Bickmore fighting for us but who else? Lack of funds from donations and lack of funds from our government have left us to totally rely on outside sources. In a video I placed up on social media I asked the then Prime Minister Tony Abbott why we don’t get funding. Is it because the survival rate is low and dead people can’t vote. Mr. Abbott didn’t call me back and the survival rate is still low.

In my lifetime we won’t find a cure but we can lay the foundation now for a better future so that moving forward the next generation of brain tumour patients can have better choices to make with longer survival rates. I hope we can bring awareness and research to brain tumours just like The McGrath Foundation did for breast cancer.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones, I still have the power to make an impact not only through raising public awareness for research but to also educate people on the importance of health, diet and exercise through my own business.  Had I not been fit and healthy I would have found out too late and surgery would have been my only option. I opt no surgery.

Lets be grateful that we have been giving this option to make a difference , big or small.

Brain Tumours Are Not Rumours They Need Funding Too.
